What is the Best Scraper Type for Your Conveyor System?

When installing a belt scraper on your conveyor, deciding on the type of scraper can be make or break for the system.

What are the different types of blades? The pros and cons? Primary vs secondary?

This article will point you in the right direction so you can get the most out of your conveyor cleaning system.

Different Types of Conveyor Scrapers?

Conveyor belt scrapers are usually split into two different purposes: primary and secondary.

As the name suggests, the primary scraper is the first scraper in the system and is usually responsible for the majority of the cleaning.

The secondary scraper is an additional scraper which assists the primary scraper in cleaning the belt. This scraper adds another level of cleaning and is particularly effective when material consistently sticks to the belt and the primary scraper is unable to provide an effective clean alone.

Some conveyor systems have tertiary scrapers, i.e. a three-scraper system. It is a secondary scraper in design, and fitted in as a tertiary position.

Which Blade Material Should I Use?

The two most common materials for conveyor scraper blades are polyurethane and carbide. Depending on your application, either of these two choices are usually solid choices.

T2 Blades

DYNA Engineering T2 Primary Scraper

T2 blades are primary scraper blades and made of polyurethane. They have a large wear area and can be used on new, worn or damaged belts.

DYNA Engineering has engineered a carbide tip for our polyurethane T blades. These tips are great for adding extra service life and are perfect if you are choosing to install T blades onto a new conveyor belt. As the blades and belt wear, there is a natural progression from carbide to polyurethane built into the blades.

T2C Blades

T2C blades are primary scraper blades and made of carbide. They are highly wear-resistant and are best suited to new belts or belts in good condition.

T2C blades have a smaller contact area when compared to polyurethane blades, and therefore are more effective at breaking through some carryback coatings.

The carbide blades are usually used on new belts or belts in good condition. They deliver superior cleaning and service life, and can operate at higher pressure and belt speeds when compared to polyurethane.

H2 Blades

DYNA Engineering H2 Primary Scraper

H2 blades are primary scraper blades and made of carbide. They are highly wear-resistant and are best suited to new belts or belts in good condition. H2 blades have a smaller contact area when compared to polyurethane blades, thus more effectively break through some carryback coatings.

The carbide blades are usually used on new belts or belts in good condition. They deliver superior cleaning and service life, and can operate at higher pressure and belt speeds when compared to polyurethane.

DYNA Engineering G2 Secondary Scraper

N2 Blades

The N2 blade is a type of secondary scraper blade. It is available in both carbide and polyurethane. N2 polyurethane and carbide blades are interchangeable without alteration to the scraper, thus allowing easy change out and selection of blade as the need arises or a change in conditions occurs.

N2 scrapers are used when a scraper with rotatory adjustment from one side is the best fitting arrangement.

G2 Blades

DYNA Engineering R2 Reversible Scraper

The G2 blade is a type of secondary scraper blade. It is available in both carbide and polyurethane. G2 polyurethane and carbide blades are interchangeable without alteration to the scraper, thus allowing easy change out and selection of blade as the need arises or a change in conditions occurs.

G2 Scrapers are used when a scraper with vertical adjustment on both sides is the best fitting arrangement.
